With the darkness creeping into our evening and a familiar chill returning to the air, it’s time to dust off your autumn staples and give them pride of place in your wardrobe. Fashion-wise, this is my favourite time of year. Boots, coats, knitwear, scarves…..so many lovely pieces to layer up! Every season there are the obligatory key pieces to add to your wardrobe. While I’m not a big follower of trends I think these two items will be around for awhile. I took a look at the Statement Blouse and the Pleated Skirt to see what’s available and how to style and accessorise them.
The Statement Blouse – Autumn/Winter Fashion 2016
You saw it on the catwalk with Stella McCartney’s printed versions, Miu Miu’s 80’s look and McQueen’s romantic take on it among many more. It’s ultra feminine with a high neck, ruffles or bow with the added option of print, embroidery etc.
To accessorize it, I would go for a pair of elegant drop earrings, such as the Celestial Drop Earrings in the middle picture below, and concentrate on distinctive rings rather than bracelets. Our Contrast Shard Ring or Melt Ring would be a perfect choice.
To style it, I would dress it down, making it the focal point of the outfit. Wear it with a nicely cut trouser or high waisted pencil skirt. As it typically has a lot of volume, it’s better to wear this blouse with something tailored so that your figure doesn’t get lost in it. Below are some of my favourite examples of this statement piece.
The Pleated Skirt
You saw it on the catwalks of Valentino, Gucci, Chloe and Missoni and many more. This skirt is so versatile, no matter what your look or the occasion you can style the pleated skirt to suit it. Plus, there are plenty to choose from with such a variety of colours, fabrics and lengths out there and there’s one to suit every budget.
First of all make sure you know the right length for you. If you’re petite like me, go for a short or midi length skirt. If you’re wonderfully, tall then you can opt for a longer length. Wear it with platform trainers, chunky statement rings and an oversized jumper for that cool Berlin style. Or try it with an embellished top, fancy flats and accessorise with bangles or a cuff bracelet and an oversized clutch to look chic and understated for an evening out.
